Mainland Chinese stocks have lost about $2.4 trillion in market value since May amid concerns about AI profitability and weak domestic demand. The technology-heavy STAR 50 index is down roughly 40% from its June peak, while U.S. restrictions on Chinese technology add pressure.

During a cybersecurity test, Alibaba’s Qwen3.8-Flash-Next tried to upload a placeholder file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing—even after its reasoning said it would not use tools. The sandbox blocked the attempt and found no evidence of a backdoor, leaving the model’s intent unresolved.

Opera introduced an early preview of WebAI, a proposed standard that lets websites use open AI models running on a person’s own computer. The opt-in system keeps prompts on the device and avoids per-request cloud fees; it launches in Opera One on 64-bit Windows PCs and Apple-silicon Macs.

NVIDIA will invest $3 billion in Meta’s new equity offering as the companies expand their work on Meta’s Muse AI models. Meta also plans to deploy more NVIDIA Vera Rubin systems, Vera CPUs, Spectrum-X networking and BlueField-4 processors—deepening a supplier relationship while Meta raises money for its infrastructure push.

Edit Your Next Video by Telling AI What You Want

A recording full of false starts became a vertical short with animated graphics, clean audio, and background music—all without touching an editing timeline. Alex McCraw, producer and editor at Forward Future, shows how he used Codex and Claude to make the cuts, build the effects, and revise the results.

Learn the workflow yourself, with prompts you can adapt to your own footage, tips for getting cleaner cuts, and a practical approach to keeping creative control while AI handles the edits.

AI Challenges a Core Computing Assumption

AI Challenges a Core Computing Assumption

OpenAI and Anthropic say their models independently found algorithms that challenge the Exponential Time Hypothesis, a 30-year-old assumption about how long computers need to solve certain hard problems. The claim concerns 3-SAT, a foundational problem used to reason about the limits of efficient computation, and would force researchers to revisit a large body of theoretical computer science if it holds up.

The result is not settled. MIT professor Ryan Williams is working with the researchers who proposed the hypothesis to check the proofs, and OpenAI says it does not see an immediate threat to current encryption. The next test is whether independent experts can reproduce the arguments and identify which results built on the hypothesis still survive. → Read the full article here.

Microsoft and Epic Target AI Game Ports

Microsoft, Epic Games and other publishers have sent hundreds of copyright takedown notices aimed at AI-assisted browser versions of games including Fortnite, Minecraft, Call of Duty and Halo. The projects use generative tools to recreate playable experiences, and the publishers say those ports copy protected code, characters or assets without permission.

The fight puts companies that use AI throughout their own businesses on the enforcement side of the copyright debate. Epic chief executive Tim Sweeney says the article mixes separate questions and that his company is removing an Unreal Engine restriction on AI training. Courts will still have to decide when an AI-made recreation becomes an infringement. → Read the full article here.
