Former Apple CEO John Sculley warned that Apple is falling behind in AI and now faces its first serious competitor in decades: OpenAI. A new AI technique enables large language models to simulate consumer feedback with 90% of human reliability, offering a scalable alternative to traditional surveys. Published October 9 on arXiv, the “semantic similarity rating” (SSR) method prompts LLMs to generate qualitative product feedback, then maps that text to Likert-scale ratings using semantic embeddings.

Tested on 9,300 responses from a major personal care brand, SSR’s output closely mirrored human data, both in distribution and interpretability.
